UK homeowners: has the hot weather damaged your property?

MoneyGuardian community team

During a dry spell, such as the successive heatwaves that affected some parts of the UK this year, houses built on clay-rich soil suffer as moisture is sucked away by trees and bushes. This causes the clay to shrink and foundations to drop, causing structural problems.

We would like to speak to homeowners who are dealing with damage to their homes which is likely to have been caused by this year’s extremely hot, dry weather.

Perhaps your property has subsidence, or cracks in bricks and masonry, or doors that are now difficult to close? How are you dealing with these issues? Have you had to make an insurance claim? Tell us.
